Foster Home Application

Thank You for your interest in fostering for Collie Rescue Network!  Each Collie that comes into rescue is an individual, as are our foster homes, and in order to make the transition as easy as possible for all involved we require you to fill in the form below completely.  Questions like, "what breed dogs do you currently have" may seem silly, however some Collies do best with larger breeds and do not like small dogs (or vice versa).  All the questions on this application form are designed to ensure that the Collies placed in your home for fostering will fit into your home, your family and your lifestyle.

Many people ask us, "how can you let the dogs go?  Don't you want to keep them all?".

Our answer is simple.  We know that by letting that one dog go on to his/her new home we are available to help the next Collie in need.  We are confident in the process CRN uses to find adoptive homes and know the Collies are moving on to wonderful, loving new families!

We're always surprised at the number of people who are shocked that "Lassie" needs a rescue group!  They are surprised that anyone would "give away" their Collie.  We explain that Collies are just like any other dog in that they have their own quirks and general habits that don't fit into every home or lifestyle (they are a herding breed after all!).  Also, many of the Collies that come to rescue with CRN come from owners who can no longer care for their beloved pets (owner passed away, moves to a retirement home, can no longer afford the costs of owning a dog, moving and can not take the dog with them, etc.).

We ask that our foster homes be patient with a new foster dog.  Remember, this is frightening for them - where are their people and who are you?  Schedules change on  them, everything familiar is gone.  They need time to adjust to their new surroundings.

Foster parents are a special breed of people!  They open their homes, their families and their hearts to a Collie in need and help that dog become a confident, loving member of the household.  Without the foster families, rescue would not exist!
