Kalvin & Lassie

Kalvin came to rescue with a serious medical problem that took many months and a very expensive surgery to fix.  Once he was better though, he found his new home with Vicky & Denis where he bonded very quickly and easily became a much loved member of the family.

A short time later, his mom and dad decided they’d like to help more Collies and became a CRN foster home.  It was great timing as Lassie, a very special girl, needed a place to relax and wait for a furever home of her own.  Lassie was a nervous girl at first and Kalvin became her knight in shining armour.  He watched as she

struggled with her fear of doorways and so would walk in and out, coaxing her to come with him.  With his help, Lassie settled into her foster home so well that CRN got a call saying, “Lassie needs to stay with us”.  And so Miss Lassie became part of the family too.

The bonded pair that they were, Kalvin and Lassie passed away within a few months of each other and are now, once again, together and playing in the fields of the Rainbow Bridge.

Amber

When Amber found herself in a local animal shelter she was much relieved when the shelter manager phoned CRN to say they had a senior gal who needed some vet care and could rescue take her in?  The amazing volunteer Virginia drove straight over, bundled Miss Amber up and took her home.  Amber had barely made it in the door when her foster family decided they wanted to be her adoptive family!  Amber was a wonderful old gal who spent her last years being doted on by her mom and dad and her new Collie brothers.  She even became a TV Star when she represented CRN on City TV’s, Animal Housecalls, show along with her mom, Virginia!

Miss Amber crossed over the Rainbow Bridge earlier this year and is missed by her Collie brothers, her kitty family and her humans, Virginia and Dave.

GOODBYE SPLASH

On “Remembrance Day” 2010 we said goodbye to our darling “Splash” and sent our lovely girl on her way across the “Rainbow Bridge”. She had not been well for a while, the inner light had dimmed in her eyes and it was time to let her go so she could run, play and do all those wonderful things she used to do such a short time ago.

She was our first Collie and from the beginning was a source of delight and joy. From those first days when she would not venture outside the house without Lisette in tow to a few weeks later barking at and going crazy whenever a tractor or truck would dare to drive past our back 40. Of course we cannot forget her chasing motorbikes, a trait Lisette found out about shortly after she came to us, always exciting.

Although we only had her with us for 7 yrs it seemed like forever. All the quirks she had, lying on her back legs akimbo waiting for a tummy rub, barging our other dogs out of the way to be first in line for attention, treats or whatever else she thought she was missing, tip toeing around puddles so she would not get her paws wet. Special times, there are so many. Wonderful lazy summer walks around paths and laneways where she could sniff to her heart’s content. Watching her on a warm summer’s afternoon finding the right shaded spot so she could have a quiet sleep after her busy day. Going crazy during the first snowfall of the season, eating it, rolling in it, and shovelling it with her nose. When the snow was deeper stopping and lifting a paw because she had ice balls between her pads, of course someone had to go and do something (She had our number).

Although we still have two wonderful Collies and will probably have more in the future there will never be another “Splash” she was our miss personality plus. We have retired her “Collar”, we have many wonderful pictures and of course we have our myriads of memories, to many to recount here.

We miss you girl. Run “Splash”, run like the wind.

Lisette & John

Thoughts:-

Dogs are quite like people, only much nicer.

If dogs do not go to heaven when they die I want to go where they went.
